What Is Polyurethane?

Polyurethane (PU) is made from polyisocyanate (OCN-R-NCO) and polyhydroxy compound (HO-R-OH) and there are a plurality of -NHCOO-repeating macromolecular compounds in the main chain.
Polyurethanes were invented back in the 1930s by Professor Dr. Otto Bayer (1902-1982). There are various types of polyurethanes, which look and feel very different from each other. They are used in a diversity of products, from coatings and adhesives to shoe soles, mattresses and foam insulation.
For now, polyurethane is one of the six promising synthetic materials in the world. Due to its excellent product performance and wide application field, it is a crucial industry of development in the world.
We use polyurethanes in one form or another every day – at home, in our offices and cars, for sport and leisure activities and on holiday.
Polyurethane is a plastic material, which exists in various forms. It can be tailored to be either rigid or flexible, and is the material of choice for a broad range of end-user applications such as:
  1. insulation of refrigerators and freezers
  2. building insulation
  3. cushioning for furniture
  4. mattresses
  5. car parts
  6. coatings
  7. adhesives
  8. rollers and tyres
  9. composite wood panels
  10. shoe soles
  11. sportswear
Polyurethanes are versatile, modern and safe. They are used in a wide variety of applications to create all manner of consumer and industrial products that play a crucial role in making our lives more convenient, comfortable and environmentally friendly.
As for in Henstar, polyurethanes are mainly used as raw materials for screen media, rollers, and wear parts.
